How To Give

If you would like to extend your support of Idaho Humane Society to make a lasting impact, there are several gift options to choose from. Whether you would like to support our work today or benefit us after your lifetime, you can find a charitable plan that lets you provide for your family and support Idaho Humane Society. Here are some of the most popular charitable plans to consider:

appreciated securities

A gift of appreciated securities like stocks and mutual funds is a powerful way to support our mission with a charitable contribution for the full market value and incur no capital gains tax subject to IRS deductible limitations.

If you prefer to complete your gift through your broker, please fill out the form to receive our transfer information or email the address below. This will alert us with details of your appreciated gifts so we can properly acknowledge your donation.

charitable IRA rollover

A charitable IRA rollover is a wonderful option for people 70½ and older. That’s because it allows you to make a gift to the animals — from $100 to $100,000 — and the distribution won’t count as taxable income. An IRA rollover is also a great option if you don’t normally itemize your charitable deductions.

BEQUEST

Sample Bequest Language

Planned gifts are critical for a sustainable future that our community pets and people deserve.  To ensure your philanthropic intentions are achieved, estate planning documentation language must reflect your wishes. The following is intended to help you draft a bequest that meets your intentions. Our legal name should appear as:

LEGAL NAME: Idaho Humane Society

FEDERAL TAX ID NUMBER: 82-0212536

MAILING ADDRESS: 1300 S Bird Street Boise, Idaho 83709

The following wording is suggested:

General Bequest of a stated sum of money: A general bequest is a gift of a certain amount, usually without any source pointed out from which the amount is to be paid. For example, a man leaves his favorite nonprofit $100,000 in his will. This is a general bequest.

“I give the Idaho Humane Society, 1300 S Bird Street, Boise, ID 83709, Federal Tax Identification 82-0212536 Dollars ($______).”

Specific Bequest of a certain asset from your estate: A specific bequest is a gift by will of a particular thing, or specified part, of a person’s estate, which is capable of identification and which is to be delivered to the beneficiary.  For example, a person leaves his favorite nonprofit certain real property or a specific vehicle in his will.  This is a specific bequest.  The nonprofit may either use the item or sell it, in which case the sale proceeds would benefit the nonprofit.

“I give the Idaho Humane Society, 1300 S Bird Street, Boise, ID 83709, Federal Tax Identification 82-0212536 (Insert here a description of the particular property).”

Residuary Bequest, after other bequests and expenses have been paid: A residuary bequest is a gift of all or a portion of the remainder of the donor’s assets after all other bequests have been made and debts and taxes paid. For example, a mother leaves $50,000 to each of her five children and the remainder of her estate to her favorite nonprofit.  The gift to the nonprofit is a residuary bequest.

“I give the Idaho Humane Society, 1300 S Bird Street, Boise, ID 83709, Federal Tax Identification 82-0212536 (all) (a portion) of the rest of my estate.”

Contingent Bequest if you are not survived by certain individuals: A contingent bequest is a gift in a will made on the condition of a certain event that might or might not happen. A contingent bequest is specific and fails if the condition is not made.  For example, a man leaves all of his property to his wife, but, if at the time of his death, his wife is no longer living, he leaves his property to his favorite nonprofit.

“If (name/s of primary beneficiary/ies) do/es not survive me, or shall die within ninety (90) days from the date of my death, or as a result of a common disaster, then I give to the Idaho Humane Society, 1300 S Bird Street, Boise, ID 83709, Federal Tax Identification Number (82-0212536), (insert here the exact dollar amount, description of property, or percentage of residual estate).”

Ensuring Care for Your Pets

Ensuring Care for Your Pets

As you plan for your estate, we encourage you to consider providing for your dogs, cats and other pets should they outlive you. You can help to ensure that everything goes smoothly by incorporating your wishes for emergency and long-term care for your animals in your will or trust.

  • Arrange an emergency or permanent caregiver
  • Include backup options for your caregivers
  • Make provisions for your pets in your will or trust

The Idaho Humane Society Angel Care Program provides peace of mind and reassurance to pet owners who worry about what will happen to their dog or cat if they become unable to care for them and have no other resources. Please contact us for more information: [email protected]

Plan for all of your assets

Did you know you may have additional assets not covered in your will or trust? If you have an IRA, 401(k), life insurance policy, or any additional accounts, these are called “non-probate assets” and they need to be planned for separately.

Using the online tool below, you can log all of your assets, name Idaho Humane Society as a beneficiary to strengthen our work in protecting animals, and receive printable instructions on how to set each one up with your broker.
