August 2023: Our Pets for the Elderly funding has been exhausted for this year. We will provide a 10% senior discount until our funding has been restored in 2024. 

The Pets for the Elderly Foundation believes that the most serious disease effecting older individuals is not cancer or heart disease — it’s loneliness. But pets can remedy that, offering affection and unconditional love, and helping ease the loss of a loved one.

Combating Loneliness

August 2023: Our Pets for the Elderly funding has been exhausted for this year. We will provide a 10% senior discount until our funding has been restored in 2024. 

To help seniors adopt pets, this program will contribute $50 toward an adoption fee. The adopter must be over the age of 60 at our Bird Campus Adoption Center. Any senior wishing to adopt under this program must be present to sign the adoption papers and have their photo taken.

Numerous studies have shown that the ownership of pets is positive for the health of seniors by providing companionship, a positive emotional state, and encouraging exercise. Regularly interacting with a dog or cat can elevate levels of serotonin and dopamine – nerve transmitters that are known to be beneficial to physical and mental health and wellness.
