Pet Food

Pantry

The Idaho Humane Society’s Pet Food Pantry is a safety net program, designed to provide resources primarily to struggling pet owners and shelter animals.

Our Pet Food Pantry takes place at our Dorman Campus:

4775 W Dorman Street, Boise, Idaho 83709.

The pantry supplies pet food for …

Meals on Wheels deliveries to homebound seniors
Families and individuals facing economic hardship
Shelter animals living in dedicated Idaho Humane Society foster homes
Other animal welfare groups in need of occasional pet food support

Do you need our help?

In order to help keep pets in their homes when their families are struggling financially, pet food assistance is available through a monthly distribution. The Pet Food Pantry can provide a household with food for up to four spayed and neutered animals for up to six months. If your pet is not yet altered, we can also provide you with information on low-cost spay and neuter options.

This program is designed to assist you in caring for companion animals that have been in your household for 3 months or more. While a member of PFP, you agree not to add or replace your pet population by taking in more animals or allowing animals in your household to breed.

Within 3 months of joining the program, ALL pets in the household MUST be spayed or neutered. We offer reduced fee spaying and neutering through IHS Veterinary Medical Center for low-income individuals and families if you need assistance. Subsidized pricing for spay/neuter is $35 for a dog and $10 for a cat. Micro-chipping and vaccinations including rabies are also available for an additional fee through our IHS Veterinary Medical Center.

Guidelines for food distribution
(depending on availability) are as follows:
  • One Small Dog= 8lbs. per month
  • One Medium Dog= 12lbs. per month
  • One Large Dog = 15 lbs. per month
  • One Cat = 8 lbs. per month

To apply for pet food assistance, visit our shelter to receive an application or fill out an application online. Proof of need is required and can be documented with any of the following:

  • Food Stamps/EBT Card
  • Medicaid/Medicare
  • SSI
  • Social Security
  • Proof of low income from your most recent income tax return, payslip, or proof of Unemployment/Unemployment income statement, financial status with the Department of Health & Welfare, any Homeless Shelter or Food Bank.
