SHORT-TERM OPPORTUNITIES

These sessions are designed for students who don’t meet the requirements to become regular, long-term IHS volunteers. You must register for each session you wish to attend.

  • You need to fulfill service hours for school, church, Scouts or another organization
  • You are too young to volunteer in the shelter as a long-term volunteer
  • You have a deep love of animals and simply want to help
  • You are willing to do a variety of jobs to help (examples include dishes, yard work, laundry, washing windows, etc.)

Register to:

  • Learn about the Idaho Humane Society (IHS)
  • Tour our facility, meet some amazing humans, discover how it operates, and observe the current furry residents on the adoption floor
  • Meet other service-minded, animal-loving students to brainstorm specific ways you can help IHS
  • Dig in and help the shelter and its residents

You can significantly amplify your impact and earn additional community service hours by bringing in specific recycled materials that the shelter uses for both animal enrichment and fundraising.

  • Empty Cardboard Toilet paper/paper towel rolls
  • Clean aluminum pop cans
  • Gently used towels, blankets, cat or dog beds, or pet food you are no longer using

*For students 14 and older who want to be long-term volunteers: ask about our Student Service Mentor program (after attending at least 3 sessions in a semester).

*You must register for each session you plan on having your child attend. Kids not registered for the day’s session cannot stay. The $15.00 per time charge offsets the cost of staffing and supplies. Parents are not required to stay. Scholarships are available.

*Because we are actively working to help homeless pets find their forever homes, the animals in the shelter are constantly changing, and we cannot guarantee direct animal interaction.

Homeschool Student Service

Want to bring a group of homeschoolers to the shelter to volunteer? Contact our Humane Education Coordinator to arrange a time during traditional school hours. education@idahohumanesociety.org

  • Up to 12 students. Parents are not required to stay but are welcome to pitch in!
  • Two hours include education, a tour, and 1 ½ hours of rolling up our sleeves.
  • $40.00 per group.
  • The type of work depends on the age of the helpers and the need on the scheduled day. Examples include laundry, dishes, writing thank-you notes, assembling adoption packets, small animal socialization, making animal enrichment toys, washing windows, and sorting donations.
