OASIS, Idaho (CBS2) — The Idaho Humane Society on Wednesday helped the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office remove 28 dogs and one cat from “deplorable conditions.”
The animals were found at a home in Oasis and are the result of a breeder named Diane Cobb, according to IHS. Cobb breeds and sells dogs through a website and social media under the name Diane’s Yorkies of Oasis.
“The dogs were heavily matted and had feces and cheatgrass embedded into their mats and skin. This case is especially disturbing because this unsanitary facility has been actively engaged in actively selling these animals to the public,” said Dr. Jeff Rosenthal, veterinarian and CEO of IHS.
A rescue team of veterinarians and IHS staff assisted deputies in evaluating the conditions of the animals and premises. All 29 animals were then transported to the IHS hospital and shelter in Boise.
“We commend the Elmore County Sheriff’s Department for their handling of the case as well as members of the public that have spoken out about the condition of this property and the animals,” Dr. Rosenthal said.
IHS is providing veterinary care and supplies for the animals currently sheltered at the facility pending further action from ECSO and the prosecutor’s office in Mountain Home.
According to IHS, the type of breeding operation carried out on this property is exempt from USDA licensing and regulation. However, officials believe Cobb didn’t maintain the proper kennel licensing needed in Elmore County. Read more…
