Community upset over death of neglected donkey in Kuna

The incident started after a Kuna neighbor requested Animal Care and Control conduct a welfare check for a seemingly neglected donkey. Idaho Humane Society employees met with the owners and were taken to meet Zach, a senior donkey that was about 25-years-old.

IHS says it noted balding spots and wounds, excessively long hooves, and excessive shedding during a time of year that high shedding is not typical. The donkey was thin but did have a flake of hay and clean water, IHS said.

“We advised that they [the owner] needed to consult a veterinarian who would be able to make the best determination for Zach’s health moving forward,” an IHS spokesperson said. “We informed them that veterinary care needed to be completed by July 19.” Click to read more…
