Dog Licensing

Licensing your pet is the law

All jurisdictions within Ada County require dogs to have and wear a license. Failure to license or to renew your dog’s license could result in a citation, monetary fine and court fees. You will need to purchase a license based on where you live – information about each jurisdiction within our service area is below. If you have any questions about licensing your pet, please contact us at 208-342-3508.

Benefits of licensing your dog

  • If someone finds your stray pet, wearing a license will help your pet make its way home.
  • The Idaho Humane Society’s Animal Control officers make every effort to return licensed animals home while in the field, preventing your pet from even coming to the shelter.
  • A current license allows you to be reached should your pet need urgent veterinary medical treatment.
  • Licensing fees help the Idaho Humane Society care for stray and homeless pets, reunite them with their owners or find them new, loving families.
