long-term

The Idaho Humane Society relies on our many volunteers to bring our vision to life by sheltering, feeding, providing medical attention, and finding adoptive homes for abandoned and abused animals in our community.

Thinking about volunteering with the Idaho Humane Society? There’s more to it than walking dogs and cuddling cats! With over 20 roles—many non-animal-related—we need help with donations, data entry, and laundry to support 10,000 animals each year.

Our volunteers make it all possible! Before applying, please review your availability as training takes time and resources. While we aim to match volunteers with their preferred roles, our priority is meeting the animals’ needs. In an effort to do both, we ask candidates to submit an application for review so that our team can verify your eligibility and recommend the opportunities that might be the best fit for you.

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteers must be at least 12 years old to participate and 18+ to handle animals independently. Those ages 12-17 must work alongside a parent/legal guardian on all shifts. Separate applications must be submitted for child and adult.

New volunteers are required to attend a 90-minute onboarding session at our Dorman Street shelter within four weeks of acceptance.

We ask volunteers to commit at least three hours per month for six consecutive months. Building a reliable community of helpers takes dedication, and your support makes a difference!

Each volunteer must have a unique email account that is checked regularly, along with internet access and basic technology skills to manage their volunteer account and schedule.

*multiple volunteers cannot use the same email address.

We are currently accepting applications for:
