12 Strays

of christmas

It’s time once again to help our 12 Strays of Christmas find loving homes for the holidays!

Every weekday between December 8th and December 23th, we’ll be presenting an adorable, adoptable companion animal… our annual adoption celebration sponsored by our friends at Bronco Motors.

Watch live on the KTVB News at Noon or visit their website to see the 12 Strays of Christmas at a later time.  Tune in and meet special dogs, cats, and maybe even a bunny who’ll all be hoping to find their forever homes this holiday season, each one introduced by wonderful shelter volunteers. Then follow along on our website and social media while we update each pet as they are adopted!

We are excited to announce that we have a $50,000 MATCH from the Hansberger Family Foundation, starting today! http://bit.ly/IHSdonate. We greatly appreciate the generosity and commitment to saving lives in the Treasure Valley and beyond.

1st Stray of Christmas: Penelope

Penelope is our darling STRAY #1 – She can be a bit shy but will warm up quickly with some scratches and catnip, but also enjoys quiet time alone. Do you hear what I hear? A meow, a meow, dancing in the night. With a tail as big as a kite! Adopt her into your forever home – she will bring you goodness and light! WATCH KTVB VIDEO.

2nd Stray of Christmas: Jess

Jess is our Stray #2! She’s a beautiful, goofy girl who was transferred to us, so we don’t know much about her previous life. However, we know she is a very friendly dog who loves playing. She loves toys, butt scratches, and making new friends. This smart girl knows sit and loves walks. Jess would make an amazing adventure buddy. She is still very young and puppy like, so a home that has experience with puppies and dogs would be best.

She will bring good tidings to you and your kin! Not only good tidings for Christmas and a Happy New Year but all year around. You can meet Jess at our shelter: 1300 S. Bird Street, Boise, Idaho 83709. WATCH KTVB VIDEO.

3rd Stray of Christmas: Merlin

Meet Merlin, our third Stray of Christmas. He’s a happy, jolly soul who wants to connect with his people. He’s a 1-year-old Beagle / Bulldog mix, who is social, good with older kids, knows some basic commands, and even jumps through hula hoops for treats! Merlin will make a lovely holiday addition with a family who can spend lots of time and attention doting on him, whether walking him on a leash, chasing a toy, or snuggling up under the covers in the evening. 4th Stray of Christmas: Nutmeg

Nutmeg is dreaming of a white Christmas with her forever family! This girl is a bit shy but friendly. Did you know rabbits can be litter-boxed trained to live indoors just like cats? Maintenance is fairly easy, but rabbits do need to be handled regularly and will need regular kennel cleaning. Nutmeg would make a terrific pet for kids from one to ninety-two! Please consider adding this sweet girl to your home to make your season merry and bright! WATCH KTVB VIDEO

5th Stray of Christmas: Luigi

Luigi is the Idaho Humane Society’s 5th Stray of Christmas. He’s a 2.5 year old mixed-breed waiting to hear the bells on Christmas day with his new forever family. Luigi knows several commands and knows how to sit, lie down and shake… and we think he knows a lot more. He is easy on leash, friendly to everyone he meets, dreaming of peace on earth, and goodwill to men. Come meet this awesome little guy today. WATCH KTVB VIDEO

6th Stray of Christmas: Iris

We’re featuring Iris as our adorable Stray #6. She is a beautiful 2-year-old Siberian Husky/German Shepherd mix. Iris would love to spend the evenings winding down with the lights turned down low.

She originally came to Idaho Humane Society from an underresourced shelter in need of medical care. We provided an FHO and amputated her tail due to extensive damage.

Iris is potty trained, kennel trained and loves being outdoors. She didn’t live with dogs or cats, but is friendly with all she has met. She has been great with strangers and children that she has encountered. She knows sit, down, and shake. She loves to swim, play fetch and tug of war. Iris can jump a six foot fence, so she should be supervised when outdoors and exercised on leash.

She will certainly be making your spirits bright this Christmas as a new addition to your forever home. WATCH KTVB VIDEO

7th Stray of Christmas: Salma

Sweet Stray #7 is Salma, a year-year-old terrier mix. She just came to Idaho from Lubbock, Texas and loves zoomies and toys. Some might say she would enjoy a-wassailing among the leaves so green. She would definitely love to find a family to join a-wandering, so fair to be seen. She is easy to handle and is great with other dogs. This flirty girl is wishing that love and joy comes to you, and to you a wassail, too (a hot mulled cider drink!). WATCH KTVB VIDEO

8th Stray of Christmas: Ollie

Our 8th Stray of Christmas is a sweet 3-year-old cat named Ollie. He’s a happy jolly soul who loves cuddles and hugs. No magic hat needed with this boy, he’s a sweet, content cat. He’s quick to purr and play and will make a wonderful addition to your forever home. Ollie has been waiting since October to find his forever home. He isn’t a fan or other pets, so he will need to be the king of his castle. Christmas is not about opening presents, but opening your hearts… Ollie is waiting to win over the hearts of his forever family! WATCH KTVB VIDEO

9th Stray of Christmas: stacy

Our Ninth Stray of Christmas is Stacy. She knows the weather outside may be frightful, but the fire is so delightful! She recently transferred into our shelter and needs to find a new home to live out her golden years. She is affectionate, loves toys, and is good with other dogs! Bring her home and let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!! WATCH KTVB VIDEO

10th Stray of Christmas: Nala

Our tenth Stray of Christmas is an adorable, loving cat named Nala. She’s a 3-year-old female that doesn’t mind being doted on and absolutely loves making biscuits and chasing lasers. She’s looking at a Blue Christmas without a forever family, but if you adopted Nala, your heart would be light and all of Nala’s troubles will be out of sight. She would do best in a home with children aged 10 and older. So, adopt Nala and have yourself a merry little Christmas now! WATCH KTVB VIDEO

11th Stray of Christmas: Charlie

Our 11th Stray of Christmas is Charlie. He doesn’t want a lot for Christmas; there’s only one thing he needs. He doesn’t care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree. Instead, he’s looking for a home with kind, patient people… possibly with a cat friend where he can live as the only dog. Charlie may get along with older children who can go slowly with him, pet him gently, or play fetch with him, his favorite game. Make Charlie’s wish come true… all he wants for Christmas is you! 12th Stray of Christmas: Cosmo

On the 12th day of Strays, the Idaho Humane Society gave to me… a sweet boy named Cosmo. He’s a 1-year-old male who is looking for a loving forever home filled with fun and love. He recently was shared due to severe matting with burrs, and will need a warming lawyer (sweater/coat) for time spent outdoors and possibly indoors until his fur grows back. He’s currently dreaming of:

Twelve dog bones for digging,
eleven naps a day,
ten frisbees a-leaping,
nine off-leash dog parks,
eight stuffies a-squeaking,
seven lakes a-swimming,
six geese a-chasing,
five squirrels to tease,
four fire hydrants,
three Puppuccinos,
two kitty cats,
and a tug-of-war in the hallway!
