The Idaho Humane Society’s Animal Care and Control Division protects Ada County animals every day and at all hours from cruelty and neglect. Our Officers rescue hundreds of injured pets each year.

Animal Care and Control Humane Officers responded to assist Meridian Police Department with the rescue of a new kitten! The Humane Officer became the kitten’s foster parent! 

“At first, we didn’t even know what color she was,” remarked Andrea, our Humane Officer called on the scene where six-month-old Val was wholly saturated in oil. Somehow, Val had fallen into an abandoned oil drum on the farm where she was living as a young stray. Learn more…

Together with the Kuna Police Department, IHS rescued 77 animals on Thursday, September 16th. The owner relinquished the animals but has a known history of housing an excessive number of pets and became overwhelmed with the capacity for care. Read more…

In October of 2020, Humane Officers rescued this handsome boy who had been struck with a crossbow arrow, penetrating his left eye. Our Shelter Medical Center was able to remove the arrow, then the eye, as it had endured irreparable damage. Miraculously, it did not enter his brain!  Read more…

To say that this week has been a difficult week at IHS would be an understatement: we have had two large-scale seizure cases. On Monday, we received a call that a litter of kittens was stuck inside a large excavator at a hotel renovation. Employees left cat food out, hoping to coax the kittens to safety and placed signs on the heavy equipment just in case the construction crew came back early. Read more…
