Bethany sent us an amazing post-adoption update. This is a true testament of the reward that a little (or a lot) of patience, time and love can bring for our nervous furry friends... and us! ⠀

"I just wanted to share the happy tail about my dog, Birdie, who I adopted just over two years ago from IHS. She had been found running around Weiser and then taken to the Boise shelter, where she was spayed and given the name Ivy. I must have seen her the very first night she was posted on your website, because there was hardly any info other than a picture (last pic attached), her name, and that she was probably around 3 years old. The look in her eyes just shot straight to my heart, and I went to see her the very next day after work. I had a hard time getting her to show her personality because of how scared she was, though I could tell she was probably really sweet, just not used to being around humans, or at least not nice ones. The shelter was closing for the night so I gambled and put down the deposit, and I told myself I’d come see her again the next day and try to get a better feel for her and decide then if I’d take her home forever. That night I went and got a dog bed, food, bowls, harness and leash, “just in case” I told myself. The next morning I got to the shelter, went to her kennel, took one look in her eyes, and told her, “Let’s get out of here, shall we?” What proceeded was lots of firsts for Birdie; I don’t think she’d ridden in the backseat of a car before, so that was the first hurdle of getting her home with me. Once home, I had to convince her that her dog bed was not a scary thing, teach her not to run into the glass in the sliding door, and most of all, get her to trust me. Fast forward a month or two later, and after lots of patience, pets and treats, Birdie became my shadow and my best friend. It’s now been two years, and she is the sweetest dog I have ever had. She constantly brings me comfort and happiness, and I hope I do the same for her. I am so glad I gambled on her, because I ended up winning the jackpot!”

We had an incredible Thanksgiving; 41 animals foun

We had an incredible Thanksgiving; 41 animals found their forever homes on Black Friday alone! In total, 137 animals joined their forever homes last week: 87 cats, 45 dogs, 4 rabbits, and 1 hamster. ⠀

Sampson (in the middle) came to us all the way from Minidoka in hopes of finding his new family. Last week, his travels became worth it—he was adopted! Sampson is a fun-loving guy who wanted a home that would give him lots of love and attention. He is sweet, playful, enjoys playing tug-of-war and at the end of the day loves to snuggle up to his people. ⠀

We currently have 28 puppies in foster care right now. Some of these cuties came to us just a few days old and are being bottle-fed, others are older and eating a mix of wet puppy food and dry chow.
