IHS welcomed 8 puppies into the world today!

WARNING: THIS VIDEO MAY NOT BE SUITABLE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT COMFORTABLE SEEING SURGERY OR BLOOD.

We had a terrific morning here at the Idaho Humane Society. We brought eight puppies into the world today! Momma Chihuahua, was a recent transfer from California and had came to us pregnant. We sent her to foster care so we could keep a close watch with her; last night she began to go into labor. She was struggling and her blood sugars were low, coupled with her babies being very large, we were worried about her not being able to give birth naturally. We sent our foster mom to a local emergency veterinarian hospital since it was late in the evening and our hospital was closed for the night.

The emergency hospital kept a watchful eye on her and made sure she was stable. The next morning, her foster mom brought her back to our shelter where we prepared a large staff for the new arrival of puppies.

This videos shows her c-section in action and how we work together as a team to take care of both mom and her babies. If you’d like to consider signing up or learning more about how to become a foster parent, please click here: http://bit.ly/IHSFoster
