Our Donor and Veterinary Medical Center Supported Funds save lives!

The Idaho Humane Society provides compassionate veterinary care to as many cats and dogs as we can. Our Veterinary Medical Center provides immediate medical care for all of the ill or injured homeless animals that are in the care of the Idaho Humane Society. We’re also able to provide veterinary care for the companion animals of families, seniors, and individuals in the community who aren’t able to otherwise afford veterinary services for urgent care of their acutely ill or seriously injured pets. These services are provided through the use of standardized sliding scale fee schedule that provides reduced cost medical care and payment plans based on a pet owner’s ability to pay. Additionally, we provide low-cost spay and neuter surgeries to both improve pet’s health and to prevent unintentional breeding. Beyond the welfare of the pets themselves, the lives of the most vulnerable of our city’s residents, including the elderly and children who live in poverty, are enriched and made healthier by their relationship with their companion animals. There are few times when the sting of poverty is felt more acutely than when pets must be relinquished or perhaps even euthanized due to the inability to pay for necessary, life-saving veterinary care. Our Veterinary Medical Center serves as a true safety net for many beloved pets, particularly during difficult economic times. For many pets suffering from life threatening illness or injury, we are often the last hope.

Funding for the medical care for pets in need by our Veterinary Medical Center is provided through donations from individuals and businesses, support from grants, and revenue provided by non-income qualified clients of the Center. Please consider supporting these vitals programs.

The donor supported STAR FUND supports medical care provided to the lost and homeless dogs, cats and other animals that enter our shelter each year. Many of these pets require extensive medical care to return them to health so that they may be re-homed or returned to their owners. Our Medical Center’s veterinarians, technicians, and other staff tend the medical needs of over 13,000 shelter pets each year, and many more community animals as well. The STAR Fund supports lower cost veterinary services for pet owners that qualify as low-income based on federal standards. These owner can qualify for a standardized, income-based, sliding scale fee structure to help them afford their pet’s medical care. Providing this care for low income families often means the difference between an animal staying in a home where it is loved and cared for versus being euthanized or surrendered to our shelter.

When you support the low cost spay neuter programs of our veterinary medical center you invest in the effort that saves the most lives per dollar spent. Thanks to decades of providing low cost spays and neuters locally, the number of surplus animals entering our shelter has decreased during years in which the human population has increased dramatically. The S.P.O.T. program includes everyday low cost surgeries performed at our hospital which is open seven days per week, evening low cost clinics operated on site utilizing volunteers to support trained veterinarians and medical staff, and our innovative off site surgeries performed in our veterinary hospital on wheels, the SPOT unit, which also provides these services to low income areas elsewhere in Idaho.

EASY Fund

A generous bequest from a dog loving supporter of the Idaho Humane Society established the EASY Fund. The Easy Fund provides support for urgent and necessary medical care for shelter dogs as well as supporting the low income contingent sliding scale services provided by our Veterinary Medical Center to dogs owned by low-income families in our community. Additionally, the Fund assists in subsidizing the medical care of dogs from other rescues and shelters that are suffering from serious injuries or illnesses. EASY Fund, by specific request of the founder, does not support spay/neuter procedures or routine, non-serious medical treatments or preventatives, and it is restricted to dogs only.

To make a donation to support the EASY Fund, you may mail your donation to EASY FUND c/o Idaho Humane Society, 4775 Dorman Street, Boise, Idaho 83705, donate ONLINE (click here) or contact the Development Office at or (208) 387-2760.
